"It's the truth" - What the audience said after the World Premiere
featherStrength, Capitol Cinema, Auckland - 4 July 2026
featherStrength didn't run a traditional Q&A after the World Premiere. Instead, people talked to each other, and to the team, in the foyer, on the stairs, in the queue for the interactive fish sculpture. Some of it was captured on camera. Here's some of what was said, unedited.
On watching from outside the caring role:
"A lot of curiosity for me, because I myself am not a carer. I'm here supporting someone who has a sibling in that space, so she has some of those same feelings."
"It's really interesting for me to see the struggles people face -because you only see it secondhand through one person, but a different person in a similar space can go through that same experience in a very different way."
On the silence in the film:
"The film, for me, was - inspiringly, through his incredible art and his talent - a lot of the pause, and the silence that was spoken about, resonated with me. Because through my own journey, I've had to learn to listen to the silence and find some peace in it. It reminded me how essential the quietness is."
On the joy:
"It was really great to see the joyful moments, too. Those were really touching - because that side of it doesn't often show."
"It just shines a light on the depth, the profundity of what it is to care for someone... completely."
On being moved:
"It opened my heart. And I really felt - sensitive about it."
On why it matters:
"I just felt like everybody should see this film, because it's the truth. It's the truth. And it might not be completely beautiful at times, but even then - because it is so honest, it is beautiful. I'm really, really grateful to have seen this film."
